Recently, there has been a lot of hype surrounding a Premium Mid-Range product from the flagship smartphone maker OnePlus. Yes, the device we’re talking about is the OnePlus Nord. By now, people are wondering why the device is being so much-hyped. Keep reading & we’ll tell you why the OnePlus Nord could be the game changer we needed this year.
Let us first address the ‘Premium Mid Range Category’ that is the INR 20-30K range in India. While technically ”20-30k is premium mid-range but we in India call it the ‘Flagship Killer’ category thanks to the likes of Poco which came up with the idea which was further supported by OnePlus in the past. Keeping these cut-throat competitors aside, the only other brands in this price range were the seasoned offline players, Oppo & Vivo that had slightly overpriced phones due to the heavy dealer, distributor & brand margins.
The rise of Poco F1 gave fuel to the notion that you could virtually sell a Flagship spec’d product in India if you toss out the margin equation. Now, this allowed the entry of brand like Realme, who have tasted some success with their products. But with the recent COVID-19 situation, rising component costs and GST, producing a phone with the Flagship killer mindset especially at this price is a dream.
A glimpse of what OnePlus is trying to eye here was revealed in their documentary ‘New Beginnings’. Let’s face this; no one wants a $1000 phone when the premium mid-range segment is booming and is enough for most smartphone buyers. Countless products have proven it, and now you could see that fact play again with OnePlus Nord as well. The market is right and ready for OnePlus to begin their new journey of going back to their roots.
Keeping with the whole idea of OnePlus embracing the future of connectivity by launching an all 5G ready lineup and their insistence of going with Higher refresh rate displays that they very passionately call, ‘Fluid display’, might work in their favour with a rightly priced product. From the details that were leaked and the information we got from our sources, OnePlus is packing some serious hardware in this thing and gunning to outsmart their competitors.
With Poco unable to bring something of the same calibre, already gives an edge to OnePlus Nord. Something we could see change by the next month, as we heard about the existence of a Poco product with a similar set of hardware specifications already in the works.
So what we know so far about the enigma that is OnePlus Nord in terms of specifications. The phone features a 6.44″ FHD+ Fluid AMOLED Display with an In-screen fingerprint scanner, dual-punch hole and everybody’s favourite 90Hz refresh rate. For the optics, it has a combination of a 32MP+8MP set up in the front & a quad rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP+8MP+5MP+2MP sensor array. Also, you get 8/12GB of RAM & 128/256GB of storage on board (depending on the variant) and the latest build OxygenOS on top of Android 10. There is also the promised two years of Android version updates and three years of security updates which are hardly given by other manufacturers in the industry.
As for the price, maybe a starting price of INR 26k could turn it into one of the hottest smartphone deals of 2020. So by now, you must’ve had an idea of the lack of good options in the mid-range category, and how OnePlus could capitalize on this opportunity to deliver a banger.
