How is the build?
The entire build is done in plastic which is to be expected from a product at this price. The design is fairly nifty, it’s a cylinder with a flat stand on the bottom. The Aer Smart Matic is being offered in two color choices and we had the darker Grey color with up.
The darker color helps the unit to blend in more with the overall decor and won’t stick out like a sore thumb for most users. There is a single button on the ride side with four LEDs, three of them depicting the time while the fourth one lets you know the status of the Aer Matic.
Underneath that button and LEDs is a small indent to open the front cover of the Aer Smart Matic which gives us an open view of the fragrance can, the spraying mechanism and slot for two AA batteries used to power this dispenser. The dispenser is also mountable and has an ident on the back.
Overall, the build is solid considering the price and the use case of this product.
How is the Setup & Performance?
Setting up the Godrej Aer Smart Matic dispenser is fairly easy. Just pop-in the batteries, load the can and power on the device by pressing the button. On the very first boot, the device will get into the pairing mode, as this has a companion app.
Download the Godrej Aer Smart Matic app on your phone from the Google Play Store or AppStore, as the app is easily available for both the platforms. Create an account and sign in, then follow the steps on screen to pair your new device. Post pairing, you can create timers, schedule sprays and even order fragrances.
That being said, the app isn’t necessary and is only helpful if your phone is nearby, since the dispenser works on Bluetooth. You can setup the dispenser manually with three timer presets, a 10 min timer, 20 min and a 40 min timer. These are time slots where in the dispenser will make a spray.
The app also tells you how much liquid is left in the can inside and order refills directly. Each refill costs INR 275 or more given the fragrance. On the bright side, the company promises 2,200 sprays in each can. The spraying mechanism is a bit loud, and can be heard at a distance as well, could be off-putting for some users.
Verdict- Should you buy it?
As per us, the INR 799 asking price for the Godrej Aer Smart Matic is justified given how well the product performs. The build quality is decent, and the app has a wider selection of fragrances.
That being said, the app asks for too many details and permissions on your phone which is certainly a privacy nightmare. The spraying mechanism is a bit too loud as well and we hope it gets fixed in the next iterations.
